Hi All, You might have noticed our lack of blog posts in the last few weeks. We took a hiatus from blogging in order to work on photos without interruption so all of our clients could get their portrait or wedding pics in time for holiday printing. We managed to get everyone something, and we hope you and your families enjoyed the memories!
Now, we hope you are curled up by a fire somewhere, with a cocktail in hand, and relaxing after the holidays. :)
You will be hearing more from us soon as we get everyone else their final proofs and album designs in early 2008. For now, we are off to the slopes...

Little Pumpkin!
So, our little Ava Grace is growing up. She is one and a 1/2 now and talking like it is going out of style. She has lots of little words and phrases, and some sentences that are hard to make sense of but she is desperately trying to communicate. I think she might be getting her gift of gab from me. ;) It might be the only thing I gave her since she is looking more and more like her Dad these days. 
She has this wild hair that we hope will soon grow out of its modified mullet stage and become a nice bob or cute short girly cut. For a while it was her earrings that saved her from the "what a cute little boy" comments, now it is this wild blond hair. (By the way, she came out with dark brown hair originally, so anything is possible!) I am anxiously awaiting her bangs to grow out, and once that happens we will be ready for clips and fun hair things! So, I share a few photos so you can all see the little ball of energy that surrounds us daily. We got ourselves a little spitfire, but she is ours and she is just adorable.
By the way, have you been to Silverman's Farms in Easton, CT? That is where this pumpkin patch is and it is fun for the little ones. Another one of our favorites is Jones Family Farm in Monroe. Happy pumpkin season, and I'll have more pics for Halloween soon!

Christy and Tim's Westchester wedding
Today I get to share photos of Christy and Tim's wedding. Christy is this beautiful girl with an amazing smile (I'm sure Tim would agree) and she made it super easy for me to do my job. Her veil took one bridesmaid to hold and her train took another bridesmaid, so thank goodness for sister/friends!
These are just a few preview pics that I thought were fun. In this one below her Dad is escorting her down the aisle, and they are laughing at the aisle "runner" being brought down a little late. Situations like these deserve a little laughter, and they help to ease any nervous energy one may have before the ceremony even begins. ;) (Here is a photo contrast between black and white and then sepia, both of which I love.)
Tim, the new hubby, is this great guy who totally helped out with some of the wedding workload and I was lucky enough to get to work with him. I can tell that he is going to be an awesome "hands on" type of husband-partner-friend to Christy, she has found one of the good ones. I just recently posted their slideshow at www.afterglowphotos.com/slideshows/080307 so you can see more photos there. It was such a gorgeous day, followed by an elegant reception at Tappan Hill in Tarrytown, NY. The people who managed this event, Abigail Kirsch, are total professionals, and from what I could see everything went off without a hitch! I also have to give huge props to one of my favorite bands, Stages a.k.a. Eclecticity Music, who played there. I love working with them, not only are they so nice to work with but they really get wedding guests dancing the entire night! It makes for great candid photography when the whole crowd is dancing their butts off to some great music, and they have hysterical expressions on their faces and are really enjoying themselves. (Grab this band now if you can, as I'm pretty sure they book up fast!!) Anyway, a big congrats to the Christy and Tim and their families!

Ode to Jack (my Dad)...
Recently, my family had a bit of a scare surrounding my Dad and his health. He is 60+ (I stopped counting for him) and he is generally healthy and he strongly believes in donating blood and has done so since I can remember as a young child. (Donating isn't easy for us as we tend to all be slightly anemic in my fam, and so we power through it because we know how much it helps to save lives.)
My Dad was going in for some routine exams and a colonoscopy, and so I checked in the night before and wished him luck. The next day seemed to go fine and he rested. We were told he had a pre-cancerous polyp which they removed, and later that day he awoke to a loss of blood and my Mom rushed him to the emergency room. A few hours later I got a call about what was going on and that they believed everything was fine and they'd keep me updated. And, then my Dad started losing more blood and had begun fainting and then they decided to run a slew of tests on him. He began to get really weak, and they soon realized he had been internally bleeding on top of the external, which amounted to him losing 50% of his body's blood mass and all within a few hours! Pretty scary, and so immediately he had to prep for surgery so they could repair the tear he had (causing the complications). After about 4-5 blood transfusions and a few nights in the ICU, he was finally sent home to rest. Thank God for all of that blood that he was able to get from donors, instant Kharma I tell ya! We are still waiting on some more test results to make sure he is in the clear, but it was a bit of a panic stricken 2 weeks for our family. Dad is doing much better though and back to his normal routine.

So, now I am on a mission to start photographing my parents more, as I guess it hit me that they won't be around forever. So, if anything, I wanted this message to remind you of two things: 1) make sure to get to the doctor more often and for your regular routine exams and 2) donate blood if you are able to!!
Also, I hope you all know how much I cherish the special days and moments that I get to share with each of you, and I do know how much the photos mean to you, as they also mean the world to me. Much love, Sarah

A Tale of Best Friends
This tale is of Renee and Matt. Quite possibly, two of the most "in-love" people I have ever met in my life! Seriously now, I meet a lot of couples. So, what is it about these two? Simply, uncontrollable laughter. I don't think I've come across another couple who laughs nearly as much as they do. They are constantly smiling and so full of love for each other, and they don't act like the "overly mushy" couple you might see crossing the street. They are just themselves, cracking each other up and everyone else around them, and they are the best of friends. Here's a photo of them seeing each other all dressed up for the first time on their wedding day!
Matt anxiously awaits his gorgeous bride. They didn't do the typical waiting until you walk down the aisle to see each other. And, it worked...and it was so special...and they still had their amazing moment or two (te he) where the whole world wasn't watching them. It was just them, and well, a camera or two. :)
And, this might have been one of the craziest and total dance floor filled receptions I have ever seen! Wendy's Family Celebration
There are some brides that prefer a smaller wedding party and don't want too many people to surround them while they get ready. This helps them with nerves and with "wedding day claustrophobia". (Yes, I swear it exists!) And so, they choose to keep things simple.
And then, there are other brides who start the day off like the party has begun! They surround themselves with 10 plus women and children and everyone in their family or extended family that means the world to them. This is what I found with Wendy. She keeps all of the people who mean the most close by when she needs them the most. And with bigger weddings you tend to need more help anyway, and when kids are involved you need ring leaders. ;)
I think Wendy picked the perfect dress for herself -- what a gorgeous gown and bride! I loved all the details (including her veil here), and I could feel the love from all the women who were present in the room while she dressed. And, can we just say "cutie-pies"! Look at these adorable kids, don't you just want to squeeze them?!

The Most Relaxed Bride Award Goes To...
Allison! I've never seen anything quite like it. Usually when I show up to do "getting ready" photos the bride or bridesmaids seem to have this nervous energy and it fills the room, keeping the excitement level high and keeping us photogs ready for the unexpected. Well, not this time. Allison and all the wonderful women that surrounded her seemed to be the most relaxed that I've ever witnessed on the "day of". This tells me two things, 1) that the families get along pretty well, and 2) that the bride has been ready for this day for a very long time. You can almost feel the calm surround you when you look at this photo of her.
I also love how the light is peeking through the window (that was behind her) here and has shaded her body but highlighted her face, making Allison's gaze in the mirror the center of attention. She has a serious look on her face, but you can tell that she is thinking, taking it all in and having a rare personal moment before she walks down the aisle. Those quiet moments are so hard to find on a wedding day...

Working with Lauren...
Sometimes, you just have one of those days or weeks when you can't quite get to everything. The last 2 weeks was just that. I just got over this cold/flu thing, that has been passed around my house, starting with Ava and me taking care of her, then Ben gets it...and well, you know what it is like to take care of a sick b-friend/husband, and then lastly I get it. No fun. I've been groggily (is that a word?) working on retouching and correcting photos while on the likes of Sudafed and Nyquil and anything else I could get my hands on.
So, this most amazingly patient bride (Lauren) has been waiting for her photos, and there are others behind her that are waiting as well. (Sorry guys, I am getting there, I promise!) Since, it was Lauren's batch I just got through I decided I would share some of the favorites.
This photo showcases 3 wedding dresses. To you, it might just look like a normal photo. To me, it represents 3 generations of Lauren's family, and the women who walked before her. Rarely do you ever get to see something like this, and such beautiful and classic dresses.
Next you will see Lauren, who has this infectious smile! She is just so full of laughter and you can tell she has a lot of love and joy in her life. If you are wondering who did her incredible makeup, look no further than the wonderful Naomi Martinez. Ladies, I never got lashes and I never got airbrushed makeup, and after seeing Naomi's work I wish I could get married all over again!
And now we get to peek at the bride and groom. Scott just has this calming and soothing presence about him, you can almost see it in this photo. He is just casually helping with her dress, but looking ahead as if he has no worries in the world. He is ready for the party to get started! I just love these two! I also had the amazing Rick Scanlan helping me out at this wedding, so I have to give him credit for his wonderful work as well. Meet the Gibson Family
Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph this amazing family in Southport, CT. The Gibsons won a free session with me this summer, and we finally got a chance to get together to shoot some amazing shots of them. These are just a sampling of the ones that I thought were so much fun, real, and storytelling.
How cute are they?! This energetic time of a toddler's life is so hard to capture because they are always moving out of your view (or lens view) and within a flash! So, I am thrilled I got to preserve this time for them.

Delays in blogging...no longer!
Well, it's only taken a few months to begin posting again. Why, you ask? Simply, we've been undergoing a major redesign or face lift on all fronts here. New marketing materials, a new website, all the good stuff...and boy is it time consuming! We run a small business here, so as President, CFO, Chief Photographer, Creative and Marketing Manager, etc., my plate is overflowing...but that is a good thing as business is thriving! So, it took us a lot longer to get started on this new blogging phenomenon and to know which direction we wanted to go in. And, now that the new website is launched you can expect a regular blog post at least once a week. (That is our goal anyway!) :)
I want you all to know what is going on around here, how our photo shoots have been, what new event sites we've worked at and which vendors we love, and what kind of things to expect in the future!

Change + Growth = A BLOG
We've all heard the words "change is good", and in the business world "growth is good". Afterglow Photos is changing, growing and evolving each day, and so today we begin a new chapter of our business. This chapter is more of a new technology feature of our website, so that way we can better connect with our clients and the people who become our friends and extended families.
Those of you who choose Afterglow Photos as your event, portrait or life photographers share your most precious and intimate moments with us. It is truly an honor to share in these memories, and to help document them for you. By sharing such joy and emotion with us, many of you have told us that you feel like you have known us forever. You invite us to dinner, you rant and rave about life, and you ask about our children or families. We strive to keep things this way. If we didn't feel a connection and if we didn't feel like we had an honest personal relationship with you then we wouldn't be able to get you to open up to us and feel comfortable, real and vulnerable; allowing your true selves to show through your photos.
